The Geological Survey of India (GSI) has for the first time discovered Lithium inferred resources (G3) of 5.9 million tonnes in Salal-Haimana area of Reasi district of Jammu & Kashmir. This report along with 15 other resource bearing geological reports (G2 & G3 stage) and 35 Geological memorandums were handed over to respective state governments during the 62nd Central Geological Programming Board (CGPB) meeting. Mines at the preliminary stage of exploration are also known as G3.
Lithium is one of the key materials for manufacturing rechargeable batteries. These batteries power electric vehicles, smartphones and laptops.
During his address at the CGPB meeting, Vivek Bharadwaj, Secretary, Ministry of Mines and Chairman CGPB, congratulated GSI and handed over GSI mineral exploration reports to respective State Governments.
