JSW Greentech Secures First Order for 100 AMPSTAR Electric Trucks
JSW Greentech has announced the first commercial sale of AMPSTAR electric trucks, with an order for 100 AMPSTAR 4×2 55T Tractor Truck electric prime movers for heavy-duty industrial haulage at JSW Cement, Vijaynagar. In collaboration with JSW Eco-Mobility as the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) provider and Paradeep Parivahan as the logistics partner.
The milestone comes as the AMPSTAR 4×2 and 6×4 Tractor Trucks receive certification under the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR) from the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), thereby meeting the safety, performance and regulatory standards required for deployment on Indian roads. The order marks AMPSTAR’s move from launch to deployment, a little over a month after the brand was unveiled.
The AMPSTAR 4×2 55T Tractor Truck is engineered for demanding Indian commercial operating conditions, delivering the peak power output of 430 kW and Peak torque of 2600 Nm. The 100 prime movers are part of an integrated transport solution for JSW Cement Limited to move clinker and slag on an approximately 330-km corridor between Nandyal, Andhra Pradesh, and Vijayanagar, Karnataka, carrying an estimated 1.25 lakh tonnes of cargo every month. JSW Eco mobility, a subsidiary of JSW Greentech, will power the fleet and build a dedicated logistics corridor with four battery-swapping stations between Vijayanagar and Nandyal.
Over the term of the contract, the operation is expected to save about 4.5 crore litres of diesel and avoid approximately 6,250 tonnes of CO₂ emissions.
“The 55T electric tractor truck, first showcased at our AMPSTAR brand launch, represents one of the most demanding vehicle architectures in commercial transportation. In just over a month, we have reached a significant milestone, with the first 100 trucks being deployed for JSW Cement’s industrial freight movement, supported by JSW Eco-Mobility as Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) partner. With this, we are building an integrated electric mobility ecosystem, including a dedicated electric corridor with battery-swapping stations to enable the seamless movement of materials. This deployment brings together our full stack electric mobility solution to make electric heavy-duty transportation commercially viable. Our ambition with AMPSTAR is to be a catalyst in transforming how businesses move goods across India. These first 100 trucks mark an important step towards that vision” said Sumit Mittal, CEO, JSW Greentech.
“At JSW Cement, we are committed to building more sustainable and efficient industrial operations. The deployment of 100 AMPSTAR electric trucks marks an important step towards decarbonising our logistics operations while supporting the movement of materials across our supply chain. With an integrated electric mobility solution backed by battery-swapping infrastructure, we aim to reduce our dependence on diesel, lower emissions and advance our sustainability objectives without compromising operational efficiency” said Narinder Kahlon, Director Finance, JSW Cement.
AMPSTAR vehicles will be built at JSW Greentech’s integrated greenfield manufacturing facility, being developed across approximately 90 acres at AURIC, Ch. Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, with an annual capacity of 15,000 electric buses and trucks. The facility will house an automated truck-cabin line and an integrated battery ecosystem, and it is supported by JSW Greentech’s R&D centre in Pune.
AMPSTAR offers customers power configurations from 150 kW to 500 kW and a choice of outright purchase, leasing, Battery as a Service (BaaS) and other ownership and operating models, along with charging infrastructure, financing and after-sales support. After the tractor-trucks, the truck range is planned to expand into tippers and fixed-body dumpers.
