Daimler India Commercial Vehicles Joins Government Scheme for Replacement of Old Trucks and Buses in Delhi-NCR
Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV), which owns the BharatBenz brand, has joined the Government of India’s scheme for the replacement of old trucks and buses in the Delhi-NCR region.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) and DICV for the implementation of the scheme. Under the agreement, DICV will offer an 8 per cent discount on the ex-showroom price of eligible BharatBenz trucks and buses purchased under the programme.
For electric vehicles (EVs), the discount will be capped at the level applicable to an Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicle of the equivalent Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) category.
The scheme aims to accelerate the replacement of older, polluting commercial vehicles with cleaner and more efficient alternatives. In addition to the 8 per cent discount provided by participating Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), the Central Government will offer a 5 per cent interest subvention and fixed monthly fuel vouchers for a period of five years.
Participating State Governments will further support the initiative by providing up to 100 per cent concession on motor vehicle tax for ten years and waiving registration fees for eligible beneficiaries under the scheme.
Earlier, Ashok Leyland, Switch Mobility, Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, and SML Mahindra had signed MoUs with the Government for implementation of the programme. Together, these companies account for approximately 85 per cent of the trucks and buses market, ensuring significant industry coverage for the scheme.
With DICV’s participation, the initiative gains further momentum towards modernising the commercial vehicle fleet in the Delhi-NCR region while promoting cleaner and more sustainable transportation solutions.
