The government of India plans to auction 40 GW of renewable energy till 2018. This was disclosed by Anand Kumar, Secretary, New and Renewable Energy. While speaking at the Global Wind Day celebration organised by the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA), Anand Kumar said, India will auction 40 GW of renewable energy comprising 10 GW wind and 30 GW solar every year for the next 10 years till 2018.
He further stated that, the country needs 350 GW in solar (by 2030), of which 100 is planned till 2022. As per the power projections of Indian government, the country will have to auction 140 GW of wind energy to meet demand by year 2030. By the end of 2030, India will have approximately 500 GW of renewable energy comprising 350 GW solar and 140 GW wind.
