In a review meeting held to review the ongoing National Highways projects 700 ongoing National Highways projects were revived. In attendance in the review meeting were Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Shipping, Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation his ministry’s senior officials. Also in attendance were officials from NHAI, National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDC), PWD Secretaries of respective states , Project Directors, Regional Officers, Central and State Government official associated with the project and also the concessionaires/ contractors.
In the review meeting, construction target for the year 2018-19 was increased to 6000 km from 5058 km set earlier and obstacles such as land acquisitions, environment clearance, utility shifting, and delayed permission in cutting of trees were also discussed. The review status of National Highways in Maharashtra and the North Eastern states were not discussed in the review meeting. The Union Minister was happy with the performance of states like Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh in overcoming the obstacles.
