Government plans to construct railway lines along Samruddhi Mahamarg

Indian Railways and MahaMetro (Metro Railway Project Company of Maharashtra) have signed an MoU for linking railway line to Metro coaches on broad gauge network & creating a Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) in Nagpur city.

While speaking at the signing ceremony Piyush Goyal, Railway Minister informed that the railway ministry is trying to execute a plan for setting up railway line across the national highways including Nagpur –Mumbai Super Express Way (Samruddhi Mahamarg). The Nagpur –Mumbai Super Express Way being constructed by the Maharashtra government is about    700 kilometres long and is expected to reduce the travel time by road by almost 50%. The minister stated constructing a Hi speed Railway Corridor along the Samruddhi Mahamarg will reduce the travel time to just 5 hours.

Indian Railways has also allocated a record sum of 67 thousand crore rupees for development of Suburban railway network in Mumbai which is used by one third of total Railway passengers in India.
