EDF, a French Utility and GE have signed an agreement to jointly build six reactors for the Jaitapur nuclear power plants. The nuclear power plant is located at Madban village, Ratnagiri district in Maharashtra. This plant, after fully commissioned will have a cumulative capacity to produce 9,900 megawatt of electricity.
As per the agreement signed between EDF and GE, EDF will supply EPR technology and provide its expertise for engineering integration covering the entire project - nuclear island, conventional island and auxiliary systems, while GE Power will design the conventional island and supply its main components. The agreement also states that training and operational support services would be provided.
The Jaitapur power project’s completion is important for India in its plans to raise its nuclear power generation capacity to 22,480 MW by 2031.
