The global elevators and escalators market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 4.1% by the year 2020, what is your outlook, what will be the role of the Indian market in this scenario?

Globally, the industry is expected to grow at a steady pace due to the rising demand from emerging countries, especially India and China. Indian elevator and escalator market is also registering steady growth. Increased real estate activity along with rising disposable income stimulates the demand for elevators and escalators. Increased migration to urban areas, rise in aged population, and foreign direct investment inflow in construction comprises some of the key factors propelling the elevator and escalator market in India.

India is witnessing the arrival of a new generation of elevators which have been equipped with innovative technologies offering energy efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and ‘smartness’. Moreover the growth in the construction and infra sectors will provide further impetus to the market. The market has huge opportunity with an increase in upcoming residential, hospital, hotel, airport and metro rail projects.

So as the India economy witnesses’ steady economic growth the Indian elevator and escalator market is poised to grow.

Broadly speaking the elevator and escalator market derives revenue from new installation, maintenance, and modernization. How important is the role of maintenance in this gambit, what are the packages offered by thyssenkrupp for long term maintenance of its products?

Elevators and escalators are the nerve centres of all buildings: their safe and reliable operation is essential. Through TEAMServicethyssenkrupp offers to its customers a comprehensive, systematic, reliable and stress-free maintenance service. Our processes, systems and committed team make this possible. We are determined to strengthen our maintenance and service business through highly trained technicians, providing timely and world-class service locally and intensifying thyssenkrupp’s maintenance business with efficient solutions.

Our Prescriptive Maintenance solution, offered through a variety of service agreements, insures a consistent, proactive, and predictable process you can rely on. Our unique field operations system further enables our team to monitor the leading indicators that optimize equipment availability. With TEAMService, the systems and processes that keep people moving are the standard.

thyssenkrupp has recently launched MAX, a game-changing predictive and pre-emptive service solution which extends remote monitoring capabilities to dramatically increase current availability levels of existing and new elevators. Utilizing the power of Microsoft Azure Internet of Things (IoT) technology, MAX makes it possible for an elevator to “tell” service technicians its real needs, including real-time identification of repairs, component replacements, and proactive system maintenance.

Delivering consistent service also requires the industry’s best trained professionals. Our TEAMService is focused on the continual development of our people. SEED Campus, the thyssenkrupp Elevator training institution, assures that our team is continually and systematically trained to deliver reliable services. To complement this, our International Technical Services centers (ITS) are on call 24 hours a day to provide expert technical support when required. Our people and networks make Team Service possible.

thyssenkrupp  Elevator had announced the set up of a new multipurpose manufacturing facility in the Chakan Industrial Area in Pune , at an investment of 44 million € is the process underway , in what time line do you expect the additional facility to be fully operational.

thyssenkrupp Elevator’s new multipurpose facility (MPF) is in line with the Indian government’s initiative to promote local manufacturing, and we are confident that it will make a significant contribution to this endeavour. Forty four million euro is the total planned investment which would be invested largely in two stages. The first stage of 6,000 units planned with an investment of 39 million euro would be operational by 2017, and the further expansion to 10,000 units is planned to be operational by 2019/20.

Given the fact that most of the Indian cities are turning into vertical cities with an increasing number of skyscrapers, what are your specific products in the high speed domain for the Indian customer?

thyssenkrupp ‘s TWIN and the Double-deck Elevator systems meet modern day challenges perfectly. Fast & energy efficient, these elevator systems come equipped with intelligent traffic control systems which optimize traffic automatically and reduce empty runs. The reduction in energy consumption and emissions that come with these technological advances will make the future smart cities a better place to live.

TWIN-2 Cabs, 1 Shaft, 0 Crowd

Revolutionary engineering, precision driven control system and an exemplary safety concept form the core of the TWIN Elevator System. This state-of-the-art elevator system has two cabs running independently in the same shaft, each with its own counterweight, safety and drive equipment. Capable of travelling in different speeds and directions, these elevators can accelerate to 7 m/s.

The TWIN’s advanced control system enables the engagement of an innovative traffic regulation mechanism. For instance, access to certain floors can be restricted by security codes or the lower and upper cabs can be used separately to serve common or high-security areas. A perfect solution for Hospitals, TWIN eases transportation of beds with medical equipment or a large group of people efficiently in terms time and energy. A cab can transport 2.5 metric tons while still having one cab for emergencies.

With reduced shaft core space and construction costs, the TWIN elevator system offers the most flexible elevator solution with an eco-conscious heart.

Double-Deck Elevator – The fastest way up

Double-Deck elevators are designed with two elevator cabs placed one on top of the other, in a single cage frame. Passengers access the elevators on two levels, usually linked by an escalator equipped with an orientation-friendly display system.

The Double-Deck System has been designed specifically to meet the shuttle operation needs in high-rise buildings. Designating Double-Deck Elevators to conduct high speed transport for a high volume of passengers at pre-defined stops or transfer points optimizes traffic flow. The Double-Deck System can also transport heavy traffic for specific floors – for instance, the lower cab can serve all even floors and the upper cab at all odd floors.

Elevators, escalators or moving walks, in all these cases, highest standards of safety and reliability is not a requirement but mandatory, what are the quality procedures followed by thyssenkrupp  to ensure these parameters are catered to in its products?

thyssenkrupp supplies products that strictly meet safety requirement of local regulations.   As a Fortune 500 German company with above 200 years of engineering history, “safety” and “Quality” no matter for our employees, our customers, or end users, has been always our focus.  We have high safety and quality guidelines in all steps of the value chain right from R&D and operation to manufacturing and installation, all the areas are covered.
