Shri S K Nirmal joined Ministry of Road Transport & Highways in 1986 as Assistant Executive Engineer through CES (Roads) and rose to the position of Director General (Road Development) & Special Secretary in Ministry of Road Transport & Highways and Superannuated in Oct 2022. He also worked in NHAI as GM from 2003-2009 and as CGM from 2009-2010. He worked as Secretary General in Indian Roads Congress till Oct 2024.
Shri Nirmal graduated in B.E.(Civil) (Hons.) in 1983, M.B.A. in 1990 and M.Sc (Road Engg.) from Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands in 1998.
Shri Nirmal has participated in Highway maintenance training (35 days) at Japan in 2003; Workshop on Road Safety in Asia 2017 held at Manila. He was member of Indian delegation at 75th Session of WPI (Working Party) at UNICEF on Road Traffic Safety in 2017 at Geneva; participated in IRAP Workshop at Washington USA in 2018 and in world bank conference in Colombo Shree Lanka in 2020. He presented 2 Technical Papers in the World Road Congress in Abu Dhabi in 2019 and again presented 2 papers in WRC 2023 at Prague. He represented India as Executive committee member of World Road Congress during 2022-24 and visited Paris, Rome and Koln, Germany.
Shri Nirmal is recipient of prestigious Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru Birth Centenary Award for his outstanding contribution to Highway profession by IRC in 2003; Lifetime achievement Award from Indian Geotechnical Society-Delhi Chapter; Eminent Engineering Personality Award by Institution of Engineers Delhi Chapter. He has also received IRC Medal for the Best Paper in 2018, 2022 and 2024. He received Road Safety Champion award from International Road Federation- India Chapter. Shri Nirmal has contributed more than 25 Technical Papers in various IRC Journals, National and International Seminars and Conferences.
