SAIL to provide steel materials for 111-km-long railway project in Manipur

For the construction of 111-km-long new broad guage Jiribam-Tupul-Imphal in Manipur, Steel Authority of India (SAIL) has provided around 60,000 tonnes of steel materials. The company has supplied for the project TMT bars and structural, HR plates and sheets and plate mill plates.
The project includes construction of 9 stations, 148 bridges and 45 tunnels.

The 98 stations are Dolakhal, Kaimal Road, Kaimai Road, Kambiron, Thingou, Khongsang, Noney Tupul, Haochang Road and Imphal. Among the 45 tunnels, tunnel no. 12 is India's longest tunnel of 11.55-km.
 

The project is being developed in two phase. In the first phase 84-km railway line will be constructed which will connect Jiribam to Tupul and in the second phase 27 kms will be constructed connecting Tupul to Imphal.

The second phase is expected to be completed by 2019 while the first phase is on the verge of completion.
