Kingspan High-Performance wall with maximum benefits

In order to achieve building efficiency, High thermal performance requirements to be fulfilled which requires, higher levels of insulation. This could result in thicker, heavier walls that impinge on internal space and increase structural loading.

With a lambda value of just 0.018W/mK, QuadCore™ performs around 20% better than standard insulation of the same thickness. This helps to create thinner and lighter rainscreen constructions without reducing the final U-value. For facades, this provides several key benefits.

Space

Useable space is an important metric when evaluating a building, both in terms of functionality and value. Domestic and non-domestic properties with sizeable internal dimensions typically yield higher rental fees, as well as being more desirable for occupants, resulting in better return on investment for building developers. Thinner wall constructions can help to increase the amount of useable space within a specified building footprint. By reducing the wall thickness, designers can ensure the maximum space utilisation of the building.

Light

Reducing wall thickness and window reveal depths can allow more natural daylight to enter a building. Enhanced daylighting can not only reduce the need for artificial lighting, but also have a positive effect on occupants' health and wellbeing.

Access to higher levels of natural light in buildings has been proven to reinforce occupants' natural circadian rhythms, helping them to feel more alert and active during the day and sleep better at night. It has also been proven to improve mood, reduce bacteria and viruses that can cause respiratory issues and ease the symptoms of seasonal affective disorder (SAD). As a light source, natural light also provides a more even illuminance of objects and people, helping people to see and engage better with what they are interacting with and reducing issues such as eye strain.

Weight

Using thinner and therefore lighter panels to achieve the desired thermal performance also has a number of practical and structural benefits. QuadCore™ Karrier panels are easy to install using both manual and mechanical methods and require fewer, shorter fixings than comparable substructures that use thicker insulation types. The thinner panels also help to optimise the number that can be transported to site in a single delivery, reducing a project's carbon footprint.

Weight is an important consideration for facade refurbishment projects where minimising the structural load on the existing structure can eliminate the need for extra, costly secondary steel support work. Despite their thinner dimensions, QuadCore™ Karrier panels still offer excellent structural and spanning capabilities. Standard panels are available in widths of 1100mm and can be cut, making them ideal for projects with close window arrangements.
