Jindal Steel and Power (JSPL) has bagged the first-ever global tender for supply of Rails to Indian Railways. As per the terms of the global tender, JSPL will now supply close to 1 lakh tonne of Rails to Indian Railways over a period of one year.
The first-ever global tender for supply of Rails floated by Indian Railways saw bidding by 8 leading players amongst which were world’s 7 topmost manufacturers of Rails. JSPL is the only private sector manufacturer of Rails in India having capabilities to manufacture Head Hardened Rails. The company operates million tonne per annum (MTPA) Rail Mill at its 3.6 MTPA integrated Steel Plant at Raigarh district in Chhattisgarh and can manufacture single piece rails of upto 121 metre length and upto 480 metres with three welds for higher durability of Rails.
According to the press release by the company, the company bagged the order after procuring all technical clearances based on global best norms. In the past the company has supplied Rails to Dedicated Freight Corridor of India and national railways of Iran and Bangladesh.
