Girish Tanti being appointed as IWTMA Chairman

The Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA) held its Annual General Meeting at the Chennai Trade Centre. The new Executive Committee unanimously elected Girish Tanti, Vice Chairman & founding member, Suzlon Energy, as Chairman, along with Dr. Saravanan Manickam (Country Head (VP India), Nordex) as Vice Chairman-cum-Secretary and K Bharathy (CEO, Windar Renewable Energy) as Treasurer.

Globally recognized climate action leader, Tanti holds multiple leadership roles, including Vice Chairman of the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), Chairman of GWEC's Global Supply Chain Forum, Chairman of GWEC India, and Co-Chair of CII's National Committee on Renewable Energy.

The newly appointed Executive Committee members include RPV Prasad (Managing Director - India, Envision Energy), Amit Kansal (CEO and Managing Director, Senvion), Navin Dewaji ( Head of Onshore AP India , SGRE ) , Siva Murali (General Manager - Sales and Marketing, ZF Wind Power), Dr. Venkataraman Balakrishnan (President, Aditya Birla Advanced Materials), and Pandu Chillakuru (Whole Time Director, Flender).

Upon his appointment as Chairman, Tanti said: "To achieve the global climate goal of limiting temperature rise to 1.5 degrees, the world must triple its renewable energy capacity by 2030. India has set an ambitious target of deriving 50% of its energy from renewable sources, with 100 GW coming from wind power by 2030, requiring a growth of 53 GW from the current 47 GW. Fortunately, India's wind sector has achieved "Atmanirbhar" status with a robust supply chain and a local ecosystem capable of manufacturing 17 GW of wind turbines annually. To support India's net-zero ambitions and establish it as a global supply chain hub, strengthening this manufacturing ecosystem is crucial, and sustained government support through policies, incentives, and initiatives will be vital to unlock its full potential."

The AGM coincided with Windergy India 2024 (6th International Trade Fair & Conference), supported by the Union Ministry of Power, MNRE, NITI Aayog, and recognized under 'Make in India'. Dignitaries included Sudeep Jain (IAS, Additional Secretary, MNRE), Lalit Bohra (IRTS, Joint Secretary, MNRE), and Dr. Aneesh Sekhar (IAS, Managing Director, Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation Ltd.). The Chief Guest at the Valedictory Session was Prakash Chand Garg (Director & COO, CTUIL).

Windergy India 2024 hosted over 300 exhibitors and delegates from 20+ countries, with visitor numbers exceeding 10,000, up from 7,000 in 2023.
