Essar Oil and Gas Exploration and Production (EOGEPL) has begun supplies to city gas distribution network in the state of Odisha via its Gopalpur mother station. Two cascades of 750 kg each have been commissioned at the mother station and it will initially supply between 4000 to 6000 kg of CNG per month to Balasore and Bhadrak areas of the network. The supplies are expected to gradually rise in next few months as the demand for natural gas increases in the region. In January, the company dispatched its first ever CNG to Bengal Gas Company’s CNG station in Kolkata, thus fulfilling its promise of providing clean energy and green fuel to the city, supporting steps towards reducing vehicular pollution in the metro.
EOGEPL, an investee company of Essar Global Fund Limited (EGFL), is India’s largest operator of unconventional hydrocarbon acreages. EGFL’s investments in EOGEPL are a part of its investment portfolio in exploration and production businesses which are increasingly focused on clean energy. CBM gas is widely seen as the green fuel of this century as the energy transition occurs in the world. The Raniganj East CBM Block in West Bengal is a flagship asset of EOGEPL with a significant volume of CBM gas reserve. Raniganj block is today a showcase of CBM development in the country and has a slew of customers who continue to depend on the supply of CBM gas to sustain their own businesses. The Raniganj CBM field has 348 wells, associated Gas Gathering and Compressor facilities and about 300 km of infield and customer pipelines.
