L&T delivers third Offshore Patrol Vessel to Coast Guard

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has delivered the third Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV-3) to the Coast Guard. The OPV-3 was officially launched from the L&T Shipyard at Kattupalli. The Ministry of Defence in 2015 had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with L&T for the design and construction of seven 'Make in India' OPVs which has to be delivered to the Indian Coast Guard between 2018 to 2021.

L&T had handed over the first of Class OPV-1 (ICGS Vikram) in April 2018. The second OPV-2 was launched on 20th January 2018 and will be handed over to the Coast Guard by the company.

According to the press release by the Company, L&T has, so far, delivered 40 Interceptor Boats out of the series of 54 boats being built for the Coast Guard and the remaining 14 are also ready for delivery.

The company to its credit has designed and built for the first time in India the Floating Dock FDN-2 for the Navy which was delivered in March 2018 and is fully operational at Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
