Interview: Shubhabrata Saha, MD & CEO of AJAX Engineering
We have consistently positioned ourself at the forefront of technological advancement in the concrete equipment industry
What new products, live demos, or key initiatives can visitors look forward to from your company at EXCON 2025?
At EXCON 2025, we are showcasing a comprehensive range of next-generation solutions that highlight our progression from a product-led company to a true 360-degree solutions provider addressing the demands of the infrastructure ecosystem. With over 20 products on display, the pavilion reflects how we have expanded beyond equipment manufacturing to deliver integrated offerings that bring mechanisation, automation, digital intelligence, and sustainability together in one unified platform. This shift captures how we are evolving to meet the industry’s growing need for cohesive, end-to-end concreting solutions. A key highlight is our focus on developing new entry-level products that are accessible and affordable to all, designed to support the rising demand for concrete mechanisation across India. These solutions are being designed to make modern concreting more accessible for emerging contractors and evolving infrastructure needs.
Besides the major launches mentioned, what additional solutions or innovations can visitors expect to see at your pavilion?
Another major attraction is our latest range of boom pumps, known for delivering precise, safe, and high-reach concrete placement through advanced control systems and reliable, operator-friendly design. With intelligent hydraulics and advanced control systems, these boom pumps enhance output consistency, fuel efficiency, and operator safety. They’re engineered for high productivity even in space-restricted project environments, marking an important step forward in automated concreting. We will also be showcasing its indigenously designed and developed 3D Concrete Printer, India’s first system capable of constructing full-scale structures at high speed. The technology ensures enhanced accuracy and precision, enabling intricate designs with improved structural integrity. Additionally, the product supports environmental sustainability by minimizing waste and incorporating eco-friendly materials, paving the way for greener, more efficient construction practices.
We will also exhibit our indigenously designed and manufactured Slip Form Paver, the country’s first slip-form paver to be exported globally across Russia and Africa. It is a specialised heavy concrete equipment used in large-scale infrastructure projects for precise and efficient concrete laying. It is suitable for various construction projects, including road and highway construction for smooth and durable concrete surfaces, as well as apron areas in airports, which connect runways to terminals and other facilities. The slip-form paver has a paving width range of 3.5 to 12 metres, ensuring uniformity, strength, and durability in constructed surfaces. The AJAX SLCM (Self-Loading Concrete Mixer) range, featuring multiple ARGO models, continues to remain a strong attraction for contractors across India and international markets. Known for versatility, productivity, and reliability, these mixers embody our “Make in India, Made for the World” commitment by combining indigenous engineering with global performance standards.
How does your SmartBots platform use AI to enhance troubleshooting, training, and overall operational efficiency?
Our SmartBots is powered by Concrete AI – an AI-driven digital platform designed specifically for the construction industry. SmartBots combine audio-based, voice-driven guidance with visual, video/avatar-led walkthroughs to support operators in troubleshooting, maintenance, calibration, and training activities. The platform offers multilingual assistance in English and Hindi, addressing the inclusivity needs of India’s diverse workforce, and is designed to expand into additional languages as required. By providing clear, real-time operational support, SmartBots help improve productivity and reduce downtime across job sites.
Telematics and IoT are redefining fleet management. How are you integrating these technologies into your machines, and how do you see data-driven insights influencing future product development?
We have consistently positioned ourself at the forefront of technological advancement in the concrete equipment industry. The company’s focus on innovation is evident in its integration of intelligent systems, automation, and digital tools across its product portfolio. From self-loading concrete mixers to boom pumps and advanced batching plants, Ajax has engineered solutions that not only improve concrete quality but also enhance operational efficiency, sustainability, and user experience. Innovations such as real-time concrete quality monitoring, self-diagnostics, AI integration, and mobile app connectivity are enabling smarter, faster, and more reliable construction outcomes. These advancements are not just product-level improvements; they reflect a broader transformation in the way concreting is approached in India.
Could you walk us through the key technological innovations?
We are driving industry advancement through several key technological innovations. Its patented load cell technology enables real-time concrete quality monitoring by ensuring precise aggregate weighing, fully compliant with IS 4925:2004 and widely adopted in government projects. Automated controls and telematics further enhance operational accuracy, with automated batching systems minimising human error and telematics providing real-time insights into machine health, utilisation, and predictive maintenance needs. The company’s fuel-efficient equipment design—particularly its 25-metre and 30-metre boom pumps on compact 4/2 chassis—delivers significant fuel savings and reduces overall ownership and operating costs by 25–30%. Advanced self-diagnostic systems support early fault detection and scheduled maintenance, improving uptime and extending machine life. Mobile app integration enables remote monitoring of equipment performance, service alerts, and analytics, strengthening fleet and service management. Additionally, Ajax has pioneered India’s first indigenously developed 3D concrete printer, capable of constructing a 350 sq. m house in just three days, enabling rapid, cost-efficient, and sustainable construction with minimal material waste.
