Egis has appointed Vipul Surana as Chief Executive Officer for Egis in India, effective immediately. Egis has operated in India for more than 30 years, delivering major projects across urban development, water, roads, and airports and holding a strong market presence across rail, roads and buildings. This latest appointment supports the Group’s plan to position Egis among the world’s top 10 construction engineering firms, with India a key growth market as public, as well as private, infrastructure investment continues to expand.

Surana brings more than three decades of experience in infrastructure delivery, having held senior roles across India, the UK, Europe, South Korea, Malaysia and the Middle East, spanning urban infrastructure, bridges, highways, metros and ports. A Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers (FICE, UK), Surana holds an MTech in Structures from IIT Delhi and is a member of the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering.

Frederico Justus, CEO of Egis, Middle East & South Asia said, “India is a market we have built over three decades and we are now close to 3,000 people delivering some of the country’s most demanding programmes, which have been key to our global growth. Vipul knows the sectors we work in well, he has led complex delivery internationally, and he understands the pace at which the Indian infrastructure market moves. That combination is what we need for the next phase of the business.”

As CEO, Surana will lead Egis’s business across India, with responsibility for growth, client relationships and delivery performance across the Group’s full portfolio in the country. His remit includes deepening Egis’s project management, engineering and advisory capability and developing the next generation of technical leadership within the Indian business.

Surana said, “I am privileged to join Egis at an important time. India is expected to invest around $1.7 trillion in infrastructure by 2030, more than double the previous seven years. India’s infrastructure story is one of the most ambitious in the world right now, and Egis is well placed within it. My initial priority is to strengthen the foundations of the business, our people, our client relationships, and our operating discipline, before accelerating the digital and low carbon parts of the business to where they need to be.”

Surana takes on a business with an established record beyond its project portfolio. Egis has been certified as a Top Employer in India by the Top Employers Institute for five consecutive years, and its community programmes in the country, including multi-year education partnerships with the Shakti Foundation and support for the NeeV learning centre, which together support hundreds of underserved children in the Delhi NCR each year, will continue under his leadership as part of the Group’s wider sustainability commitments.
