From earthmoving to underground mining and material handling, how do CEAT’s dedicated products for the construction and mining sector empower the nation?
CEAT Specialty caters to the Agriculture, Mining, Construction and Industrial sectors in India and across the world. With 100s of SKUs across bias and radial, CEAT Specialty also works closely with leading OEMs in this space. We are also closely working on projects with several OEMs in the domestic market towards launching series of newer products. Working in association with OEMs, we are carrying out innovations in the existing product lines through improved composition and design along with ramping up our production capacities.
The wholesome objective of the collaboration is to pass on value to the end users for reducing cost of operation of equipment. Ceat which claims to have fair business exposure in off-highway construction equipment sector distributes its tires through, dedicated distribution centres, CNS agents, warehouse, and dealership network. The end customers are being assisted by a 24 hour service helpline and best in class warranty policy.
Given the fluctuating prices of rubber and intermittent suspicions in the international tyre market what steps have you initiated to deal with these challenges?
We have raw material cost indexation/periodically updated rate contracts with large customers which take care of the interest of both the parties.
Given the governments focus on infrastructure and construction, do you think this is perhaps the right time to monetize on products dedicated for these sectors?
Yes and CEAT is entering into CPH/Service models to ensure that we meet our customer needs better.
Which manufacturing unit is responsible for the production OTR and OFR variants, more so since the consumption rate of two, three and four wheeler products is also increasing from time to time?
OTR and OFR tyres are manufactured in our manufacturing units based at Bhandup and Nasik which caters to the
commercial segment.
Which all OTR products are you planning to showcase in the upcoming IME trade fair in Kolkata?
We plan to participate from next edition.
When it comes to mining, the tyres perform under heavy load conditions, what kind of innovation goes in to ensure its functional optimization?
The functional optimization feature includes very strong nylon carcass and steel bead bundle (triple bead construction) ensuring high load carrying capacity and less chance of any mechanical failure.
Products are calibrated and rated in terms of numerous features including safety, where do CEAT’s products dedicated to mining and construction stand in this regard?

The purpose of CEAT is, “Making Mobility Safer and Smarter every-day.” Development of newer products for the off-highway sector and improvisations is being backed by CeatTyres state of the art, material centreat Halol and Mumbai. We do regular interactions with OEMs to get their feedback for carrying out improvisations on the existing product lines. Joint field trials, comprehensive evaluation performance are also a part of the information exchange.
It is necessary to carry out perpetual R&D from time to time to ensure timely product development and modernization, what kind of efforts are put in to the R&D sphere when it comes to OTR and OFR?
We have a dedicated R&D team working on the development and continuous improvement of OTR/OFR tyres. The action plan includes joint development programs with OEMs and regular field/market visits and continuous improvement in product and process. The company follows the principle of “first time right” concept by using virtual testing (high end and state of the art simulation techniques) to ensure high quality and high performance products goes to the market.
What are the new product launches in the OTR and OFR segment slotted for 2016?
There is a gradual shift in requirements of on-and off-highway tipper trucks to haul more loads and commensurate longer haulage. Width and diameters of tires are increasing from 10.20 to 11.20 and further to 12.24. We are carrying out necessary changes according to the newer needs. The newer products with improved composition are being developed at Ceattyres plants in Mumbai and Nashik. The new NPD’s planned are 18.00-25 E4.5/ 29.5-25 etc. We also have launched a radial portfolio and we intend to expand our offerings to our customers going forward in this year extensively.
