Arvind Kumar “A. K.” Mishra is a civil engineer by training who served as the Managing Director of the Mangdechhu Hydroelectric Project Authority (MHPA), Bhutan — the organisation behind the 720 MW Mangdechhu hydropower project.
Born in 1977 (B.E. in Civil Engineering, Jiwaji University) and later earning an M.Tech in Soil Mechanics & Foundation Engineering from IIT Delhi in 1989, Mishra has more than three decades of experience in large-scale hydroelectric infrastructure.
He joined MHPA as Managing Director in August 2010, on deputation from NHPC, where he had risen to the rank of Executive Director, retiring from NHPC in December 2015.
Under his leadership, the Mangdechhu project was executed efficiently — tackling complex geotechnical challenges, adopting advanced tunnelling techniques, and bringing the project near to commissioning in record time and at optimal cost.
In recognition of his service, he was awarded the Druk Thuksey, one of Bhutan’s highest civilian honours, for his “exceptional services to Bhutan’s hydropower development.”
