Volvo Trucks India introduces Volvo FMX Edge dump truck to transform productivity in mining operations
Volvo Trucks India has launched the Volvo FMX Edge, an off-road dump truck developed to transform productivity in mining operations in India. The product was unveiled at the Volvo facility in Hoskote, Bengaluru, in the presence of leading Indian mining customers, senior leadership from Volvo Trucks, VE Commercial Vehicles, and Volvo Construction Equipment.
Built on the proven success of the Volvo FMX platform in demanding Indian mining operations, the Volvo FMX Edge has been developed with deep customer insights and extensive validation in real mining conditions. The truck is designed for evolving mining operations, where larger excavators, higher productivity expectations, improved safety and efficiency, driver availability and predictable lifecycle performance are becoming increasingly important.
At the occasion graced by leading Indian mining customers, the Volvo FMX Edge was unveiled by Per-Erik Lindström, President – Sales Area International, Volvo Trucks; B. Srinivas, Managing Director & CEO, VE Commercial Vehicles; B. Dinakar, Executive Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Volvo Trucks India; and Arun Pillai, Vice President, Volvo Trucks India & Indonesia.
Over the last five years, the Volvo FMX500 8×4 platform has established a strong position in Indian mining, with more than 3,000 trucks in operation. The Volvo FMX Edge builds on this foundation and extends Volvo’s long-standing mining philosophy that focuses on total operating outcomes rather than a single performance parameter.
The Volvo FMX Edge is a productivity leader, equipped with a 31.2 cu.m SAE heap body capacity and a 2.8-metre-wide body configuration, designed to support better loading compatibility with high-capacity excavators, improved cycle productivity and efficient overburden movement in modern mining operations. Built on the proven Volvo FMX platform with industry leading power and torque, globally state-of-the-art safety systems, improved vehicle stability and efficiency-focused features, the truck is engineered to deliver dependable full-load performance, safer operations, fuel efficiency and long-term value.
Speaking at the launch, Per-Erik Lindström, Executive Vice President, Volvo Trucks International, said, “India is a cornerstone for Volvo Group’s future and an increasingly important market for Volvo Trucks. The launch of Volvo FMX Edge reflects our commitment to Indian customers and to solutions designed around real operating needs. Built on Volvo’s global expertise and shaped by Indian mining requirements, the Volvo FMX Edge is a strong example of our focus on customer success, sustainable progress and long-term growth.”
Concurred B. Srinivas, MD & CEO, VE Commercial Vehicles, “Volvo Trucks has earned the trust of Indian mining customers over nearly three decades by delivering solutions that perform in real operating conditions. The Volvo FMX Edge is a natural evolution of this journey. It is engineered around customer outcomes like productivity, safety, uptime, efficiency and lifecycle value. With FMX Edge, we reaffirm our commitment to supporting India’s mining sector with solutions built for confidence and long-term partnership.”
B. Dinakar, Business Head, Volvo Trucks India, added, “The Volvo FMX Edge has been developed with a clear purpose — to help mining customers achieve better outcomes every day. It is not just about capacity; it is about confidence, predictability, safety and lifecycle value. Shaped by inputs from mine sites, project teams, maintenance teams, operators and drivers, the Volvo FMX Edge represents Volvo Trucks’ response to the needs of modern mining operations.”
Arun Pillai, Vice President, Volvo Trucks India & Indonesia, said, “The Volvo FMX Edge reflects our approach to building solutions around customer applications and long-term value. Mining operations are evolving, and customers today need productivity that is efficient, predictable and safe across the duty cycle. Volvo FMX Edge brings together a proven Volvo foundation with purposeful engineering for modern mining requirements.”
The launch was followed by an experience session at the Volvo CE Customer Centre Ground, where customers engaged with the FMX Edge in an application-led environment. The program hosted jointly by Dimitrov Krishnan, CEO Volvo CE India and B Dinakar also demonstrated the strength of the broader Volvo ecosystem, with Volvo Trucks and Volvo Construction Equipment presenting a unified approach to productivity-led mining solutions.
With the launch of Volvo FMX Edge, Volvo Trucks India reinforces its commitment to delivering solutions built around mining realities and engineered for better outcomes.
