NHAI Accepts NHIT Offer to Acquire Two National Highway Assets
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has accepted a ₹6,220.90 crore bid from National Highways Infra Trust (NHIT) to monetise two National Highway stretches totalling 310.35 km across Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh, the authority said.
The monetised assets comprise the 255.97-km Amravati–Chikhali–Tarsod section of NH-53 in Maharashtra and the 54.38-km Gundugolanu–Chinna–Avutapalli stretch of NH-16 in Andhra Pradesh.
NHAI Chairman Santosh Kumar Yadav said InvITs are playing a key role in mobilising capital for highway development. With this transaction, total assets monetised through NHIT have reached about ₹49,858 crore.
NHIT, an InvIT sponsored by NHAI, has completed four rounds of fundraising from investors including CPPIB, OTPP, EPFO, NHAI and the SBI group. The trust has more than 700 investors and a current market capitalisation of around ₹28,000 crore. Its units are listed on both the National Stock Exchange and the Bombay Stock Exchange.
NHAI said asset monetisation remains a core strategy to unlock value from operational highway assets and attract private investment. Through models such as Toll-Operate-Transfer (ToT) and InvITs, the authority has generated funds that are being reinvested in new National Highway projects. During the current financial year, NHAI has monetised highway assets worth about ₹28,077 crore.
The authority added that the monetisation programme supports financial sustainability while bringing private-sector efficiencies and advanced technologies to improve the quality and longevity of National Highway assets.
