NTPC has formed a joint venture company Hindustan Urvarak & Rasayn Limited with Coal India Ltd. This 50:50 joint venture shall take up revival of Gorakhpur and Sindri plants of Fertilizer Corporation of India Ltd by setting up ammonia urea plants at each locations.
NTPC Ltd said in a BSE filing that "pursuant to joint venture agreement dated May 16, 2016 signed with Coal India Ltd, a Joint Venture Company in the name of 'Hindustan Urvarak and Rasayn Limited', with 50:50 shareholding by NTPC and Coal India has been incorporated on June 15, 2016".
The two firms will produce 1.27 million tonnes of urea per annum.

NTPC is India’s largest power utility with an installed capacity of 46,653 MW. It has established itself as the dominant power major with presence in the entire value chain of the power generation business. From fossil fuels it has forayed into generating electricity via hydro, nuclear and renewable energy sources.
Coal India Limited is the largest coal producer company in the world and contributes around 82 percent of the coal production in India. It produced 494.24 million tonnes of coal during FY 2014–15 and earned a revenue of Rs. 954.35 billion from sale of coal in the same financial year.
