Govt gives nod to set up telecom towers in border areas

New Delhi, Oct (EPC News): The Government today said that it will allow private and public telecom players to set up towers in the border areas to improve mobile connectivity. "The Government has recently lifted the restriction on telecom firms for setting up of telecom towers near international borders. Other than some areas in LoC, we will allow telecom players to set up towers near the borders,'' the Minister of State for IT and Communications, Sachin Pilot, said.

New Delhi, Aug (EPC News): As India dithers over a policy on 3G mobile telephony; US' Motorola wants to test the next level (4G) that could pour cold water on the government’s plan to raise Rs 35,000 crore from selling radio frequency for the existing version.

 

The Indian telecommunications industry is one of the fastest growing in the world and India is projected to become the second largest telecom market globally by 2010. According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), at the end of April 2009, the total number of telephone connections reached 441.47 million. With this growth, the overall tele-density reached 37.94 at the end of April 2009.
