Tata Steel arm opens forgings unit

Mumbai, Jan (EPC News):  Tayo Rolls, the cast iron and steel rolling subsidiary of Tata Steel, has inaugurated an integrated facility for manufacturing forged rolls and engineering forgings, used by various sectors including oil and gas, power, wind mill, sugar, cement and steel. The company had invested Rs168 crore.

The forgings unit comprises an arc furnace, ladle furnace and vacuum degassing unit for making forging quality ingots, including round ingots besides a modern forge shop with 2,500 tonnes open die forging press along with other auxiliaries for manufacturing engineering forgings and forged roll blanks.

The new unit also has induction hardening, a core requirement for forged rolls along with other facilities such as cryogenic treatment, heat treatment and machining facility to manufacture forged rolls.
