The CMU is a world class facility, and one of a few foundries in the world specializing in the manufacture of engineered large size castings. It will manufacture large size castings in SG and Grey Iron for critical applications in sunrise industries like Wind Power and other engineering sectors. The CMU is part of the Foundry Business Unit of L&T's Machinery & Industrial Products Division (MIPD), which already has another foundry at Kansbahal, Orissa.

The foundry will have a peak capacity of 30,000 tonnes per annum, and is benchmarked against the best in the world on productivity for mass production of large sized castings. It is capable of continuous production of castings in the weight range of 10 to 25 MT each.

With a covered area of 22,000 sq m on 15 acres of land (total land area 44 acres), the foundry has one of the best lay-outs, a unique Vibratory feeder charging system with 15 MT dual crucible, dual track furnace.

It has 11 heavy duty EOT cranes of capacities 25/5 MT to 75/15 MT supported by a 5 M x 5 M shakeout from General Kinematics, US. The sand system is a combination of Disa and IMF, Italy. Equipment for continuous mixers is from IMF and Sider Progetti of Italy, and the civil work has been executed by L&T-ECC.

The foundry has incorporated the latest state of the art pollution control, fire control, conservation of environment and natural resource measures for sustainable growth over several decades.
