Rs 800 cr released for construction of rural roads in 4 States

New Delhi, Oct (EPC News): The Ministry of Rural Development has released grant-in-aid worth Rs 800 crore for the construction of rural roads in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan and Jammu & Kashmir. The funds are released as part of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana.

Of the total amount, Rs 500 crore has been allotted for Uttar Pradesh, Rs 200 crore for Rajasthan and Rs 50 crore each for Uttarakhand and Jammu & Kashmir. The sum is the second installment of Phase-V and Phase-V (Additional) of grants in aid to the Uttar Pradesh Rural Roads Development Agency and the first installment of Phase-VIII of grants in aid to the Rajasthan Rural Roads Development Agency. The sum is the first installment of Phase-VI of grants in aid to the Uttarakhand Rural Roads Development Agency and Jammu & Kashmir Rural Roads Development Agency.

The Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) is a 100% centrally sponsored scheme to provide road connectivity in the rural areas of the country. PMGSY envisages connectivity to all habitations with a population of 500 persons and above in the rural areas and about 250 persons and above in respect of the hill states, tribal areas and desert areas through good and all-weather roads.
