ICC seeks to speed up amendment to land acquisition Bill

Mumbai, June (EPC News): The Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) wants the Centre to put the Land Acquisition Amendment Bill on fast track.

Giving an outline of what ICC expected of the forthcoming Union Budget, its President, Mr Sanjay Budhia, said, "Among other things we want the Centre to act fast on the Land Acquisition Amendment Bill and the Rehabilitation and Resettlement Bill. For sustained development we would urge the Government to take serious steps in chalking out a clear and transparent policy." Within a month ICC would bring out a survey report on land acquisition in the State, Mr Budhia said. Sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure, manufacturing and exports should receive due importance in the budget, he said. The other issues that the Government should focus on were extension of farm-market linkages, expediting work on the dedicated railway freight corridor project, developing power capacity, improving cargo handling capacity of ports, rationalizing indirect taxes, reducing personal and corporate tax burden, lowering interest rates and fast tracking pending reforms of insurance and banking sectors, he added.
