Mumbai, Apr (EPC News): Mott MacDonald has been appointed by Urban Transit Private Ltd, part of the Scomi Group, as a design review consultant for Mumbai Monorail in India. This project is an initiative of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) to help ease traffic congestion and improve the environment in the city. The 19.5 km stretch of the monorail corridor in Mumbai comprises of two sections - Jacob Circle to Wadala (11.28 km) and Wadala to Chembur (8.26 km). The corridor is expected to have up to 125,000 (1.25 lakhs) passengers per day by 2016 using 15 trains of four coaches each.
The US $580 million project will see the construction of the corridor on two pre-cast curved beams mounted on a single column structure positioned in the middle of the road. The corridor will have a horizontal curve radius main line with special crossings arrangements at Harbour Line Crossing - Wadala, Central Railway Crossing - Curry Road and at Trombay Yard Crossing. The proposed route between Jacob Circle and Chembur is expected to have one central depot and 17 passenger friendly stations.
Mott MacDonald's team of railway professionals will review the civil engineering design on behalf of SCOMI. In addition, the team will provide technical guidance to the assigned project designer and staff on site as well as identify and co-ordinate all civil and engineering design and construction issues for the substructures, guide way beams, stations and monorail corridor depot in close liaison with SCOMI.
Gaurav Srivastava, Mott MacDonald's project director said, "This is a very exciting project and we are delighted to be selected by SCOMI. Mott MacDonald has a wealth of experience in providing consultancy services on major metro and railway projects around the world. We are committed to support the creation of a sustainable urban transit system for Mumbai City focusing on reduced urban congestion, improved reliability and comfortable travel." |
