PMC to receive Rs232 cr for proposed STP under JNNURM

Pune, Oct (EPC News):  With the increase in demographic pressure on the infrastructure services, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated a master plan for treating the sewage generated in the city, told an official from Pune Municipal Corporation to EPC World.

The works are being designed and phased in such a manner that adequate provision for expansion and augmentation at later stages to meet the demands of the future is possible.

In addition to the only existing  sewage treatment plant of 90 MLD capacity built by the Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran in the year 1987, PMC in the phase -I of implementation of its Master Plan has already  Designed , constructed and successfully commissioned the following  4  Sewage treatment plants, with a capacity of around 305 MLD.

In the second phase, it is proposed to construct 5 more Sewage treatment plants with additional treatment capacity of 262 MLD of sewage. The details of the same are as mentioned in the following table.

Additional commissioning of new STP’s in Feb 09 has increased the treatment capacity to 382 MLD.
The above listed plants will be commissioned in 2009-2010, Kharadi STP will be Commissioned in 2011. After commissioning of all the above STP: - Phase I & II the total treatment capacity of PMC will be 567 MLD which in the sewage generated as on date.

The PMC has also prepared and submitted the third phase of sewerage treatment works estimated to cost Rs232.05 crores to be taken in hand under the Jawaharlal Nehru New Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) funding. The proposal has been cleared by the steering committee of the Government of Maharashtra and forwarded to the JNNURM for approval. Budgetory allocations as per JNNURM norms will be made for the below mentioned works while preparing the budget for the year 2010-2011. The details of the works are as mentioned below.
