HCC to foray into aluminum sector

Mumbai, Oct (EPC News): Hindustan Construction Company, majors in infrastructure and real estate business, is supposed to make a strategic entry into aluminum sector, said Praveen Sood, Group chief financial officer to EPC World.

New business opportunity
Since HCC’s forte is mainly into power sector, which has contributed 46% to its revenue, the company, in coming years will be targeting hydro power projects on built, operative and transfer (BOT) basis.
“We will be constructing projects ranging from 100 to 400 mw,” the Group CFO said.

The company is also looking for an opportunity to construct green-field airport in the country on BOT basis.

Road sector
The company, in the coming years, is expecting around Rs15,000 crore roads projects to be announce by National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).

Presently, the company have three road projects worth Rs2,307 crore, which includes Dhule-Maharashtra/MP border road project and Badarpur elevated expressway.

“For Rs1,990 crore Dhule-Maharashtra/MP border road project, the financial closure will get over by 2009 end,” he said.

The company is also constructing a Bulk Water Transport project worth Rs168 crore in Gujarat.
Currently, HCC has major projects worth Rs9,000 crore in pipeline and in a process to bid for projects worth Rs15,000 crore.

Q2 Results
The company has registered 23.6% growth in turnover in Q2 2009-10 at Rs862 crore, compared to Rs698 crore in the same corresponding quarter last year. The power sector has aided 46% to the turnover whereas the roads and water supply-irregation sector have contributed 29% and 25% respectively.
