Mumbai, Nov (EPC News): Mundra Port and SEZ Ltd (MPSEZL) has been awarded LOI by the Hazira Port Pvt Ltd for development of non LNG port facilities at Hazira. Hazira Port Pvt Ltd (HPPL), a joint venture between Shell Gas BV (74%) and Total Gaz Electricite Holdings France (26%), has built the Hazira (Surat) Port pursuant to the permission guaranteed by the Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB) and Government of Gujarat (GOG) in April 2002.

HPPL has been operating LNG facilities at Hazira since 2005 and after international competitive bidding, selected MPSEZL for development of non LNG cargo port for handling bulk, break bulk, container and liquid cargo, the company said in the statement to BSE.

The port once developed will be the only common user deep draft port facility in the region. The construction work shall commence as soon as all the statutory approvals are in place. The overall master plan of port provides for thirteenth berths, to be developed in phased manner, starting with three or four berths for container, liquid and dry bulk in the first phase.

Rail connectivity to the port is under progress    and the alignment has been finalized. Rail connectivity shall be done by Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd, through a SPV. The existing NH-6 connectivity to the port is being upgraded through 6 laning of the highway.

In addition to Hazira, the company is also setting up cargo terminals at Dahej, Gujarat and Mormugao port, Goa. The company is looking for port development opportunities on the eastern coast of India as well as South East Asia and Africa.
