JNPT to develop port based SEZ

Mumbai, Dec (EPC News): The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), which handles 75% of India's cargo, has taken up the proposal for development of Rs3450 crore port based Special Economic Zone/Export Processing Zone in an area admeasuring about 277 hectares near Belpada-Karal villages on the Panvel-Uran road, said G. K. Vasan, Union Minister of Shipping.

IL&FS has prepared the techno-economic feasibility report of its Phase-I, which has been approved by the JNP board.

"The proposal has been sent for seeking approval from State department of Environmental Ministry for the subject project," he said.
