Volvo Penta to produce 5, 8 litre industrial engines in India

Volvo Penta , a marine and industrial power system manufacturer, today said it would begin production of five and eight litre industrial engines in the country from next year.

The engines would be made for local customers at the VE Powertrain (VEPT) plant in Pithampura near Indore and a new line would be added at the plant exclusively for Volvo Penta engines, the company officials said.

"The global strategy that we have is to supply at the short time with a good cost or price level depending upon from where you see it, which we do now in more or less all parts of the world. India is the new place where we are coming up," Volvo Penta Senior Vice President Global Operations and Quality Peter Hertinge told reporters here.

He said "we will start the production of 5 and 8 litre engines locally here in India."

Hertinge said the engine they already have in the range was partly produced in India and finalised in Europe.

The production of 5 and 8 litre engines are scheduled to start in April 2017.

Volvo Penta President Bjorn Ingemanson said the company has strong commitment to Indian market.

"We see India as a really important market for our continued growth. There is high potential for us to grow business here with new introductions and new engine generation and so on," he added.
