Volvo CE India unveiled unique demo road

In 1998, Volvo started doing business in India. To celebrate the 20th anniversary, Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) hosted events for customers and dealers featuring top executives including Volvo Group CEO Martin Lundstedt and Volvo CE's President Melker Jernberg.

Road machinery focus

The Count on Us event took place at Volvo CE´s customer center located in Hoskote, 60 km east of Bangalore. With a focus on road segment product offerings, Volvo CE´s Indian team unveiled a complete and full-scale 100-meter demo road to an amazed audience.

“We built this model road to demonstrate what road construction is all about and how Volvo machines are contributing in the process,” said Dimitrov Krishnan, vice president and head of Volvo CE India.

Five layers

The demo road took about three weeks to build and just like most roads designed in India today, it consists of five layers. Volvo CE´s full range of road equipment was deployed in the construction work:

Layer                                                   Machines

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Sub-grade                                        G9190, SD110, EC140, EC200, EC210

2. Granular sub-base                             G9138, SD110, L936, L958, EC210 with breaker

3. Wet Mix Macadam                             P7820, SD110

4. Dense Bituminuous Macadam             P6820, DD90

5. Bituminuous Concrete                       P5320, DD90, PT220

The Resource Centre for Asphalt and Soil Training Academy (RASTA), Volvo CE´s road building institute in India, supported the project to ensure the road was completed according to the highest standards.

Permanent structure

“It was extremely well received. We normally describe this process with PowerPoint presentations and similar tools but the demo road is a much more effective way of communicating the benefits of our machines,” Krishnan said.

Following this success, Volvo CE India will keep the demo road as a permanent structure for future customer events and training.

In 2017, Volvo CE experienced an extremely strong development for road machinery in India and 2018 will be yet another record year. Some of the company´s road machinery range will be on display at the upcoming bauma Conexpo 2018, which will be held at HUDA Ground, Gurgaon, Delhi, from December 11 to 14.
