Tata Projects’ Urban Infrastructure Business Unit, had forayed in Underground Metro projects and had secured Lucknow Underground project order in April 2016. Two Earth Pressure Balanced -Tunnel Boring Machines, capable of boring 20 feet diameter holes, of Australian origin were procured and assembled approximately 70 feet below the ground. A casting yard to make precast tunnel segment lining of M50 grade concrete with Korean moulds was set up. This tunnelling operation, the first to be undertaken by the company, was commenced, by Sowmyan Ramakrishnan, Chairman Tata Projects and Kumar Keshav, Managing Director, Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation. A puja was held on the occasion at site.
