Sustainable Smart Cities India 2016 Conference - A Report

The 3rd Annual Sustainable Smart Cities India 2016 conference was successfully launched at the Sterling MAC Hotel, Old Airport Road, Bengaluru (India) this morning. This is a premier two-day high-profile conference organized by the business intelligence start-up, Nispana Innovative Platforms Pvt. Ltd., to bring-in global knowledge of smart cities, implement best practices for its success, analyze the need for innovative technologies and highlight the importance of government & citizens’ role. While the cities get smart, it’s very essential for the citizens to get smarter and the future of India seems bright with the Smart Cities Mission bringing-in technology into the respective cities and the Digital India program focusing on digital empowerment of the citizens.
 
The conference was inaugurated by Dr. Ravindra IAS (Retd.), Smart Cities India Foundation and also the Former Chief Secretary, Government of Karnataka, Mr. R.K. Misra, Center for Smart Cities and Mr. Narendra Kumar, Managing Director, Nispana, in presence of other distinguished guests and personalities. This event brought together regional and international delegation who have a keen interest in developing India’s smart cities. Around 400 participants witnessed/heard a series of keynote’s and case studies from leading experts from this industry. The key highlights to the event include presentations from Mr. Jean Grebert from Renault who spoke on: ‘Balanced Urban Ecosystems’; Mr. Aamer Azeemi from the Bhubaneswar Smart City Ltd. who presented a ‘case study on Bhubaneswar Smart City – Importance of citizen engagement in a smart city plan’, in addition to a joint presentation from Dr. Anvita Arora & Parvesh Kumar Sharawat from Innovative Transport Solutions (iTrans) on ‘Integration of Urban Transport Systems’.
 
This massive gathering also received an overwhelming support from companies such Cambium Networks and Sterlite Tech as Gold Partners; Senrysa Technologies and CMAK as Associate Partners; Osram Lighting Solutions as the Smart LED Partner; Cyient as Keynote Partner; Gigabyte as an Exhibitor;  and Climaveneta as the Bag Partner. Along with their support these companies showcased innovative technologies and state-of-the-art products which garnered great interest among the participants. 
 
There were intensive networking amongst the attending delegates comprising of Mayors and Municipal Commissioner, speakers and other ‘Smart’ dignitaries who have vouched to take the Smart Cities mission to the next level. The conference has been conceptualized and developed by Nispana Innovative Platforms Pvt Ltd, headquartered in India with offices in Dubai and USA.
 
Close to 400 participants witnessed multiple presentations, case studies and panel discussions to understand the feasibility of building smart cities from existing unplanned cities over the last two days. The case study by Arvind Tiwary, SangEnnovate, on PMI pollution: A study of using big data for smarter city was indeed very knowledgeable with huge takeaways. The infrastructural development work on the city of Amravati is being taken-up with a lot of interest from the local Andhra Pradesh and other stakeholders to make it into a city which should showcase not only the aspirations and culture of the people in that state but also the ‘smart’ way of life which will be the order of the day for both citizen as well as state departmentswas the message which was conveyed by Dr. K. V. Ganesh Babu, Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authorityon the subject of Amaravati – Master plan and it’s smart infrastructure. Dr. N. Shrimadhavi of Directorate of Municipal Affairs, made the opening presentation for the day followed by several other visionary presenters.
 
Some of the top national and international technology providers showcased their expertise and displayed their array of products, viz., Cambium Networks, Sterlite Tech, Senrysa Technologies, Osram Lighting Solutions, Cyient, Gigabyte, Climaveneta were the respective organisations. Other Organisations like Elcita, IIEC, ELCIA, Sustainability Forum India were also a part this event. The summit provided a platform with intensive networking amongst the attending delegates, speakers and dignitaries.
 
There was active participation from the senior representatives from the Govt. of Karnataka, BMTC, Members of Parliament, Mayors Municipal Commissioners from Mysore, Shivamogga, Tumakuru, Mangaluru, Kodagu in Karnataka in addition to delegations from New Delhi, Navi Mumbai, Nagaland, Uttar Pradesh, Chhatisgarh, and many more. Some of the top corporate companies like C-DAC, Karnataka Urban Water Supply & Drainage Board, Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority, VIT, just to name a few, were part of this huge gathering.
 
The conference was  a huge success as it has taken forward the work which has started on right earnest for the rapid movement of the development of Indian smart cities.
