The Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid the foundation stones of City Gas Distribution (CGD) Projects remotely from Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The foundation stone was laid in 65 Geographical Areas (GAs) in 129 Districts under the 9th CGD Bidding Round. During the event the prime minister also launched 10th CGD Bidding Round in 50 GAs spread over 124 districts in 14 states.
As per the government record, till September 2018, 96 cities/districts were covered for development of CGD networks in different parts of the country. The benefits of clean fuel through existing CGD networks are being availed till date by about 46.5 lakh households and 32 lakh CNG vehicles.
To encourage the expansion of PNG/CNG network, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) has launched the 9th CGD bidding round in April, 2018 for 86 Geographical Areas (GAs) covering 174 districts in 22 States/ Union Territories. After the to processing of received bids, grants of authorization have been issued to the successful bidders to develop CGD network for 84 GAs at present.
The Government on its part has been putting increasing thrust to promote the usage of environment friendly clean fuel, ie, natural gas as a fuel/feedstock across the country to move towards a gas based economy.
