Five Oil & Natural Gas PSUs have entered into a joint venture for the commissioning of North-East Natural Gas Pipeline Grid Project. The five PSUs - IOCL, ONGC, GAIL, OIL & NRL - have signed an agreement to this effect. As per the joint venture agreement the joint venture company will develop, build, operate and maintain the North-East Natural Gas Pipeline Grid Project. This pipeline will connect Guwahati to the major North-Eastern cities and major load centers like Numaligarh Refinery.
The approximate length of the proposed NE Natural Gas Pipeline Grid is around 1,500 kms. The project will be commissioned at an estimated cost of aroung Rs. 6000 crores. The project is expected to be completed within four years from the date of commencement, including one year pre-project activities. The Joint Venture Company will have equal equity contribution from all the JV partners.
The North-East Natural Gas Pipeline will connect the State capitals of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim.
In Guwahati, the Grid project will pass through Barauni-Guwahati Gas Pipeline which was laid GAIL. From there, the pipeline will diversified in to three directions, one direction will carry natural gas to Numaligarh, Dimapur, Kohima and Imphal and the other to Shillong, Silchar, Aizawl and Agartala. The third pipeline will carry natural gas to Itanagar. From Siliguri, the Barauni-Guwahati Gas Pipeline will connect Gangtok.
