Lack of proper water management leading to scarcity: Bagade

State legislative assembly speaker Haribhau Bagade urged farmers to adopt water conservation techniques to check wastage and under-utilisation of the scare resource.

Bagade was speaking at the inauguration of a cement check dam constructed on the Girija river at Lahanyachi wadi in Phulambri taluka. Aurangabad divisional commissioner Umakant Dangat, district collector Nidhi Pandey, industrialist Ram Bhogale, irrigation department engineers R P Kale and Vasant Galphade and sarpanch Kalpana Lahane were present on the occasion.

"Considering the drought, it is essential to arrest every drop of rain water. Lack of proper water management causes water shortage. Farmers, especially in rain-fed areas should adopt such systems that detect the amount of water to be provided to a field based on the field water content, biomass and rainfall probability, which would aid in optimization of water provision to the crop and ensure efficient crop management," he said.

Umakant Dangat too urged the farmers to focus on water management and preserving the fertility of soil.
