Keeping in view the laggard performance of public sector undertakings (PSUs) steel makers, the government has asked these PSUs to pay more attention to value addition and special steel that caters to multiple uses including in the automobile sector. Last year, the government approved the National Steel Policy which aims to increase crude steel capacity to 300 MT by 2030-31. The government is also planning to come out with a policy to increase the output of special steel in wake of increasing demand from various sectors. This government expects in the coming year demand is going to increase from shipping, automobile and defence sectors where steel and its products are used extensively.
