GE Power’s Grid Solutions business has commissioned the first leg of mega grid-stabilization project for Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) for the Northern Grid. The mega grid-stabilization project is a part of Unified Real Time Dynamic State Measurement (URTDSM) project. Once completed, this project will be the world’s largest Wide Area Monitoring System (WAMS) solution. The URTDSM project consists of monitoring and controlling of the electricity supply across the country. This projected is being commissioned by GE T&D India Limited.
The first phase of the commissioned mega grid-stabilization project will enable PGCIL not only to monitor power flow across 110 substations in the Northern Grid but also to respond to fluctuations within a fraction of a second. Once fully commissioned, these projects will be the world largest WAMS solution comprising of 1,184 Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs) and 34 control centers across India, 350 substations in the national grid.
