Essel Infraprojects conferred with the Prestigious Golden Peacock Eco-Innovation Award

Essel Infraprojects Limited has been bestowed with the prestigious Golden Peacock Eco-Innovative award 2016 for disposing of Municipal Solid Waste & generating 11.5 MW through its waste to energy plant at Jabalpur city. Golden Peacock Awards, established by the Institute of Directors, India in 1991, are regarded as a benchmark of Corporate Excellence worldwide.

The award was presented on Friday, July 8, 2016 at The Ashoka Hotel in New Delhi by Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of State (IC) for Power, Coal & Renewable Energy, Government of India to Mr. Harshad Joshi, Business Head – Environment , Essel Infraprojects Limited.

Essel Infraprojects Limited was honored with the prestigious award in the presence of distinguished gathering of business leaders, academics, boardroom professional and policy makers during the 18th World Congress on Environment Management. The awardees were selected by the jury under the chairmanship of Justice M.N. Venkatachaliah, former Chief Justice, Supreme Court of India. 

The award highlights the best in class quality process that Essel Infraprojects have build up at Jabalpur MSW plant to protect and preserve environment. 

Ashok Agarwal, CEO, Essel Infraprojects Limited, on accepting the award said, “We are pleased to receive the Golden Peacock Award for the second time in succession. Such recognition positions us as a prominent infrastructure player which constantly focuses on innovations and expertise. Essel Infraprojects Limited has ambitious plans and is committed towards building sustainable green smart cities along with expanding its foot-print in the Green Energy field. These projects generate clean, reliable energy from a renewable fuel source, thus reducing dependence ons fossil fuels, the combustion of which is a major contributor to GHG emissions.”

The Jabalpur waste to energy plant is operating at European Standards. It saves 4.4 hectares of land just by processing 2, 19,000 tons of municipal solid waste in Jabalpur city per year & generates 11.5 MW energy which is equivalent to powering 18000 households. Generally 1 ton of Solid Waste emits 2 tons of CO2 and this plant resulted in an overall reduction of 4,38,000 tons annually of CO2 emission for city of Jabalpur.
