Thiruvananthapuram, Sept (EPC News): Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) will sign a bilateral agreement with the GAIL (India) for joint development of gas-based infrastructure in the State.

The State's premier industrial promotional agency and the Navaratna Central public sector undertaking will enter into a memorandum of understanding for promoting a gas pipeline project and city gas distribution projects in the State.

The MoU will be signed at the Chief Minister's Conference Hall today in the presence of the Chief Minister, V S Achuthanandan, and the Industries Minister, Elamaram Kareem, according to Alkesh Kumar Sharma, Managing Director, KSIDC. The pact aims to promote a gas pipeline project for the supply of re-gassified liquefied natural gas from the Petronet LNG terminal at Kochi.

Another major component would be jointly promoting the city gas distribution project using natural gas. It also proposes the establishment of a city gas distribution project jointly by the GAIL and the KSIDC in the Greater Kochi area for the supply of natural gas for domiciles; automobile compressed natural gas (CNG) stations; and commercial customers as well as for small-scale industrial consumers in the region. The agreement envisages two gas pipelines in the State in the Kochi-Kanjirakode-Mangalore/Bangalore sector and a sub-sea gas pipeline from Kochi to Kayamkulam.
