Already the logistics industry in the state is facing a shortage of trained hands. This is expected to worsen once projects like Vallarpadam container terminal, Vizhinjam container port, Petronet LNG terminal and several proposed container freight stations go operational.
The new institutions are promising to bridge the gap between the demand and supply. All the new organizations are offering diploma or PG diploma in logistics management. Falcon Group, which has a CFS facility in Kochi, was among the first to come with a logistics training course in association with Dubai Port World, which will manage the Rs 3000 crore International Container Transhipment Terminal at Vallarpadam through its subsidiary India Gateway Terminal Ltd (IGTL).
Falcon Institute of Logistics is all set to start training for two batches of 30 students each for diploma and PG diploma in logistics and supply management in July. The potential for experts in logistics has attracted the Chennai-based Indian Institute of Logistics, which has two campuses in Chennai and Vijayawada, to set up its third campus in Kochi.
Apart from diploma courses, IIL offers MBA in academic partnership with VEL’S University, Chennai and accredited by London School of Business Management. Though it doesn’t guarantee placements, IIL has placement cells working in major cities in India as well as in Singapore and UAE.
