Container freight rates to US rises

Chennai, Aug (EPC News): Container freight rates to the US from India for all commodities and for all destinations have risen by $500/40-feet container (FEU).

The increase, effective from August 10, comes at a time when the Christmas and New Year shipments to the US are about to commence. Shipping lines claim that even with such an increase, customers will see a significant net reduction in rates from 2008 levels – given how far the rates fell during the six months prior to the signing of most contracts, the Transpacific Stabilisation Agreement (TSA), a research and discussion group of major container shipping lines offering ocean and inland transportation, logistics and supply chain services from Asia to the US, recently said.
