Mumbai, July (EPC News): The single biggest concern of the IT industry has been
addressed by the extension of the Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) benefits,
though by only a year, S Mahalingam, Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director
of TCS, said.

The abolition of fringe benefit taxes was a very good move for India Inc. He said
the Finance Minister did talk about a host of automation opportunities such as a
new project for modernisation of the employment exchanges in public-private partnership
which entails the development of a national Web portal with common software.
He added that since the Minister did not specify the outlay for such e-governance
projects, no fresh allocation would be made. Alok Misra, Chief Financial Officer,
WNS Global Services, said the abolition of fringe benefit tax would have a positive
impact on a people-centric company such as WNS.
“The extension of the STPI policy for a year will at best provide an interim relief
to the IT sector. However, the need of the hour os a longer extension to boost the
prospects of IT companies, and aid the revival process in the prevailing global
scenario,” Vineet Nayar, Executive Vice-Chairman of Mahindra Satyam, said.
