Cement sales up on infrastructure push

Mumbai, Oct (EPC News): The emerging sign of realty and infrastructure industry from slowdown, has given a push to cement sector in recent times.


The Aditya Birla Group said that its sales in September rose 15.8% to 2.77 million tonne as construction activity increased. Its production also rose 14.6% to 2.74 million tonne.

The Birla Group has a combined annual production capacity of 42 million tonne through Grasim Industries and subsidiary UltraTech Cement. Sales of Delhi-based JK Lakshmi Cement for September totaled 948,000 tonne an increase of 9%.

However ACC another major player in the industry said its sales fell 2.4% to 1.63 million tonne. The company did not attribute reasons for the fall.

Ambuja Cements a strong player in the western market said that its September sales fell 0.7% to 1.35 million tonne. Its production rose to 1.38 million tonne from 1.37 million tonne. The combined capacity of the Indian cement industry is 230 million tonnes.
