ACC drawing up plans for expansion

8/20/2009 10:55:00 AM

Mumbai, August (EPC News): India's foremost cement manufacturer, ACC is in the midst of drawing up ambitious plans for the next stage greenfield and brownfield expansion along with its Rs 3,000 crore expansion for taking cement production capacity to 30 million tonnes by mid-2010.

“Our next round of capacity expansion is at the Board room stage now. It will have to go through the evaluation by the middle of the year,” ACC Managing Director Sumit Banerjee said. Banerjee said that ACC may opt for both greenfield and brownfield expansions, but the site of the expansions would depend upon the availability of raw material and the proximity to the market.

The company has spent around Rs 1,600 crore in FY'09 and will be spending Rs 1,400 crore in the current fiscal on capacity expansion, he said, adding the company may also look at acquisition though nothing is on plate now. “We are not after the number game. Our capacity is growing at par with the national average of cement growth of about 10%. We will follow the market trend in future as well,” Banerjee said.
