New Delhi Jun (EPC News): The integrated terminal 3 at Indira Gandhi International Airport will be opened for passengers in mid-July. T3 will be inaugurated by Prime Minister DrManmohan Singh and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi on July 3,three years after the foundation stone was laid in February 2007. The terminal will commence international operations from July 14 and domestic flights from July 30. |

With six common check-in islands, 168 check-in counters; 95 immigration counters - 49 outbound & 46 inbound, 78 passenger boarding bridges, 6.7 million square feet of apron area, 100-room transit hotels - 68 for domestic transit and 32 for international transit, 97 automatic travelators/walkways, 63 elevators and 34 escalators and multi-level parking to accommodate 4,300 carsthe terminal claims of being the eight largest passenger terminal in the world well equipped to handle 34 million passengers annually.
The in-line baggage handling system (BHS) has a capability to handle 12,800 bags per hour. One of the walkalators at T3 with length of 118 metres is the longest in Asia.
The building & boarding piers are covered with a complete glass façade. The shape of the building is based on ‘North Light’ concept that maximizes illumination & cuts down solar gain.
The new terminal, with capacious interiors, once effective will cater to over half of Delhi's air traffic.
