AP to develop four regional greenfield airports

8/26/2009 10:38:00 AM

Hyderabad, Aug (EPC News): The Andhra Pradesh Government has decided to develop four regional greenfield airports under the public-private participation (PPP) mode.

The proposed airport at Orvakal (Kurnool district), Jakranpalli (Nizamabad), Ramgundem (Karimnagar) and Tadepalligudem (West Godavari) will be under the build, own and transfer (BOT) model. According to a senior State Cabinet Minister, the Airports Authority of India (AA) has conducted site feasibility of locations identified by the respective district administration and has cleared feasibility for these airports. The Government plans to shortly issue Expression of Interest and Request for Proposals from potential developers for setting up of these airports under the PPP mode. The new incentives include provision of land on lease, external infrastructure such as road connectivity, water supply and power. The resettlement and rehabilitation of affected families due to land acquisition would be met by the State Government. The Government is also contemplating exemption of value added tax, and also waiver of land conversion charges. According to plans, the Government has now decided to allot the project to a developer who offers to share highest percentage of gross revenue with the State. The project will have a term of 30 years with an option to extend to another 30 years. It is proposed to complete these projects within 36 months after the project is awarded to the developer in the bid process. In principle approval of the Ministry of Civil Aviation would be obtained before signing the project development agreement.
